Whole Space Roman Shades

Product: Whole Space Roman Shades

Manufacturer: Whole Space Industries LTD, of Centereach, NY

Importer: Hanover Direct Inc., (also known as Domestications) of Weehawken, NJ

Recall: October 27, 2009. Hanover Direct/Domestications has recalled approximately 90,000 faux suede room darkening Roman shades because a child can place his or her head between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind, or a child can pull the cord and wrap it around his/her neck, posing a strangulation or entanglement hazard. In March 2008 a 2-year-old boy almost strangled when he climbed onto a toy chest to look out the window and caught his neck in the inner cords of the Roman shade.

The shades are faux suede room darkening shades, style number 12810A, that were sold in ivory, taupe, gold, plum, wine red, midnight blue, moss green and dark brown. The head rail measures 23, 27, 31, 35, 39, 43 or 48 inches. A sticker on the head rail has the letters 'WS.' "Style 12810A' is printed on the packaging box.

The shades were sold by Hanover Direct/Domestications through their website www.domestications.com and through their catalog from January 2004 through December 2008 for $20-$40.

What to do: Stop using the recalled shades and contact the importer for a free retrofit kit the removes the operating cords and the exposed inner cords.

Contact: Hanover Direct/Domestications toll-free at (800) 524-0597 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET daily or Email Domestications
