Product: Maclaren Umbrella Strollers Distributor: Maclaren USA, Inc., of South Norwalk, CT Recall: November 9, 2009. Maclaren USA has recalled approximately 1 million umbrella strollers because the hinge mechanism poses a fingertip laceration or amputation hazard to a child when the caregiver opens or closes the stroller. There have been 15 reports of children in the U.S. placing their finger in the hinge mechanism, resulting in 12 fingertip amputations. The recall involves all single and double Maclaren umbrella strollers. The word 'Maclaren' is printed on the stroller. Recalled strollers were sold in Babies R Us, Target and other juvenile and mass merchandise retailers nationwide from 1999 through November 2009 for $100-$360. What to do: Stop using the stroller immediately and contact Maclaren USA to receive a free hinge cover/repair kit. Consumers may order the kit online.
