Product: Big Lots Wooden Bunk Beds

Importer: Big Lots Stores, Inc., of Columbus, OH

Recall: September 23, 2009. Big Lots has recalled approximately 20,000 wooden bunk beds because the mattress support slats and side support rails can break, posing a fall hazard if the bunk bed collapses. Big Lots has received at least 14 reports of the bunk bed support slats cracking or breaking, including four reports of minor injuries.

The recalled bunk beds are wooden with a 3-step ladder, model # WP-9108-1 and WP-9108-2. The model number can be found on a sticker on the bunk bed interior panel of the headboard or footbard. The bunk beds were sold in Big Lots stores nationwide from May 2008 through February 2009 for $300.

What to do: Stop using the recalled bunk bed immediately and contact Big Lots to return the defective parts and receive a free repair kit.

Contact: Big Lots toll-free at (866) 244-5687 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
