Product: LEGO Power Functions IR Speed Remote Control Manufacturer: LEGO Systems Inc., of Enfield, CT Recall: July 21, 2009. LEGO has recalled 1,618 Power Functions IR Speed remote controls because the batteries in the RCs can overheat and pose a thermal burn hazard to the consumer. There have been at least four reports of batteries overheating but no injuries. The recall is for the Power Functions IR Speed remote control that was sold separately (item #8879) and as part of the Emerald Night Train kit (item #K10194) and Power Functions kit (item #K8882). The RCs are grey plastic with two large orange dials and the word 'LEGO' printed on the front. The RCs were sold in LEGO catalogs and online at http://shop.lego.com from April 2009 through May 2009 for $13. What to do: Stop using the recalled remote control and contact LEGO to determine if the unit needs to be replaced. LEGO will replace defective RCs.
