Product: Spalding In-Ground Basketball Hoops Importer/Distributor: Russell Brands LLC, of Alexander City, AL Recall: August 4, 2009. Russell Brands has recalled approximately 1,700 in-ground basketball hoops because the bolts at the base can fall and cause the unit to fall,which poses an injury risk to consumers. No injuries have been reported. The recall involves the Spalding in-ground basketball hoop with supporting pole and clear backboard. Three series have been recalled: MC Sports Series (sold exclusively at MC Sports) including description numbers 88565G, 88565GT, 88567G, and 88567GT. Model is 54 or 60 inches tempered glass with adjustable-height backboard. Sold from January 2009 through April 2009. Triple Eight Series including description numbers 88830, 88830G, 88830T, 88830GT, 88880G and 88880GT. Model is 60- or 72-inch acrylic or tempered glass with adjustable-height backboard. Sold January 2009 through July 2009. Arena View with description number 886724FS. Model is 72-inch acrylic, fixed-height backboard. Sold January 2009 through July 2009. The recalled hoops were sold at MC Sports, Academy Sports, Dunham's Sports and other stores nationwide for $600-$1,700. What to do: Stop using the recalled hoops and contact Russell Brands for instructions on how to receive free replacement bolts.
