SunKids Convertible Cribs

Product: SunKids Convertible Cribs

Importer: Suntech Enterprises Inc., of City of Commerce, CA

Recall: April 2, 2009. Suntech has recalled approximately 1,900 SunKids convertible cribs, model number PY256, because the mesh side can create a gap between the side of the crib and the mattress if not zipped into place, posing an entrapment or suffocation hazard to a young child. There have been no injuries reported associated with this company's item, but in 2008 a 5-month-old child suffocated in an almost identical crib to this one that was manufactured by another company.

The recalled SunKids convertible cribs have a drop-side rail, stationary side rail, canopy assembly, and bassinet. The sides of the convertible crib are fabric and mesh. The mattress support, bassinet, canopy, and bed skirt are covered in fabric. The fabric and the mesh were sold in navy blue, light blue, pink, beige, white, beige checker, and pink heart.

The recalled SunKids convertible cribs were sold in small juvenile stores in New York, New Jersey and California from January 2007 through October 2008 for $100.

What to do: Stop using the recalled convertible crib immediately and return to store where purchased for a refund.

Contact: Suntech Enterprises toll-free at (888) 268-8139 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday.
