LaJolla Boat Bed and Pirates of the Caribbean Twin Trundle Bed

Product: LaJolla Boat Bed and Pirates of the Caribbean Twin Trundle Bed

Importer: Bayside Furnishings (a division of Whalen™), of San Diego, CA

Recall: July 3, 2008. Bayside has recalled approximately 9,350 boat-themed youth beds because the lid supports on the toy chest can close too quickly and pose an entrapment or strangulation hazard. This recall is being made after a 22-month-old boy died after the toy chest lid closed on the back of his neck, entrapping his neck on the edge of the chest. The recall involves two beds, the LaJolla Boat Bed and the Pirates of the Caribbean Twin Trundle Bed. The toy chests are shaped like a ship's bow at the end of the bed, are pre-assembled and serve as the bed's footboard. The LaJolla Boat Bed toy chest has a hardwood top and white wood base with a blue stripe. The Pirates Boat Bed toy chest has a hardwood top, wheel shape and brown wood base with decorative carvings. The beds were sold by Costco in their stores and on their website, and in furniture retail stores nationwide from January 2006 through May 2008 for $700-$1400.

What to do: Have child stop using the toy chest and contact Bayside for a free replacement hinge kit.
