Recall: June 5, 2008. MindWare has recalled approximately 2,200 Animal Tracking Explorer Kits because the bag of 'plaster of paris' contains calcium hydroxide, an irritant. There have been no reported injuries. The kits include a bag of 'plaster of paris' (which is not plaster of paris but calcium hydroxide), nature study tools and equipment, and an explorer guide. The recalled kits were sold by MindWare online (www.mindwareonline) and in their catalog from September 2007 through December 2007 for $25.
What to do: Take the kit away from a child and contact MindWare for a free replacement product or refund. You can also request just a replacement bag of plaster of paris. If you have made any casts from this material, please throw them out, as they may irritate skin or eyes.
