Recall: March 27, 2008. Avon has recalled approximately 113,000 warming polar bears because the buckwheat-filled warming pouch inside the stuffed bear can overheat and ignite when warmed in a microwave oven, posing a fire or burn hazard. There have been at least 41 reports of the warming polar bear overheating, including six minor burns. The warming polar bear is a white stuffed polar bear with red hat and black nose. It measures about 17 inches long and comes with a buckwheat-filled warming pouch that is removable and warmed in a microwave oven then placed inside the bear. The words 'Avon Products' are printed on a tag on the bear. Recalled warming polar bears were sold by Avon representatives and well as on the Avon website (www.avon.com) from July 2007 through February 2008 for $13. Recalled polar bears were also sold as part of a gift set that cost $100.
What to do:: Stop using the warming bear and return the buckwheat-filled pouch for a complete refund.
