Product: Battat Magnabild Magnetic Building Toys or Sets Distributor: Battat Inc., of Plattsburgh, N.Y. Recall: March 13, 2008. Battat has recalled approximately 7,000 Magnabild magnetic building toys and sets because the small magnets inside the pieces can fall out and pose an aspiration hazard to young children. If a child swallows more than one magnet, the magnets can attract each other and cause intestinal perforations or blockages, which can be fatal. Battat has received 16 reports of magnets coming out of pieces, but no injuries. (This recall is in addition to Battat's January 23, 2008 recall of 125,000 Magnabild building systems.) This recall includes the 108-piece (item # BB1439H) and 68-piece (item #BAT-34) Magnabild Magnetic Building System sets. The 108-piece set comes in a rotating display case that includes 60 one-inch plastic rods with magnets and 48 metal balls. The 68-piece set comes in a window box and includes 44 one-inch plastic rods with magnets and 24 metal balls. The plastic rods in both sets each have 'Magnabild' in raised lettering on them. These sets are made for children ages three and older. The recalled sets were sold nationwide in stores and online between July 2005 and February 2008 for $20-$35. What to do: Take the building set away from a child and contact Battat for a mailer to return the toy and receive a free replacement product. Contact: Call Battat Inc. at (800) 247-6144 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET or online at www.battatco.com. |
