Recall: February 7, 2008. Trek has recalled approximately 49,000 MT220 girls' bikes because the frame can break and pose a fall and injury hazard to the rider. Trek has received 13 reports of the frame breaking, resulting in four minor injuries. The recalled bikes are Model MT220 that were model years 2005, 2006 and 2007. Model year 2008 bikes have not been recalled. Recalled bicycles do not have a frame gusset, whereas safe bikes do have a frame gusset. Please see the photos above to see the gusset. The bikes were sold by authorized Trek retailers nationwide from April 2004 through June 2007 for $300.
What to do: Take the bicycle away from a child and return to your Trek retailer for a free replacement bike, or a $100 credit towards another Trek bike.
