Product: Children's Trailer Bikes Manufacturer: Pacific Cycle Inc., of Madison, WI Recall: January 8, 2008. Pacific Cycle has recalled approximately 7,000 children's trailer bicycles because the coupler that attaches the trailer bike to an adult bike has welds that can fail and pose a fall hazard to the child riding the trailer bike. There has been one report of a child who fell from a bike after the coupler failed and experienced minor injury. The recalled trailer bikes are the InStep "Pathfinder," the Schwinn "Run About," and the Mongoose "Alley Cat" with model numbers 2-PF250, 13-SC250, 13-SC350 and M5101. The model number is located on the lower seat tube of the frame. The recalled couplers have welded plates; bicycles that have couplers with cast parts are not recalled. The recalled trailer bikes were sold in bike stores nationwide from January 2007 through August 2007 for $80-$120. What to do: Stop using the trailer bike and contact Pacific Cycle for repair kit information. Contact: Pacific Cycle toll-free at (877) 564-2261 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or online at www.instep.net, or www.schwinnbikes.com or www.mongoose.com |
