Alcohol and Auto Deaths

Recent studies show that one quarter of the car accidents that kill children involve a driver who has been drinking. Two-thirds of the drivers were legally drunk with blood alcohol levels of 0.08 grams per deciliter or greater. From 1997 to 2000, 9,622 children under 14 years old died in auto accidents. In 2,335 of these deaths, at least one of the drivers involved in the accident had been drinking or were drunk.
