| It may not come as a surprise that curling irons are dangerous to children, but the dangers of washing machines are less obvious. According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, each year over 7,700 children under five-years-old suffer curling iron burns severe enough to require emergency department treatment. What's more surprising is that between 1993 and 2000, nearly 20,000 children under 15 years old sustained washing machine related injuries necessitating treatment in an emergency department.
