| Children who live with adult smokers miss more school than their peers who live in smoke-free homes. Living with one smoker increases the number of school absences by 25% and with two smokers, 75%. If the child is asthmatic the numbers are even worse: 135% if living with one smoker and 345% if living with two. What more can we say? Exposing children to tobacco makes them sick - they miss more school, are more likely to be hospitalized, and have more asthma and other respiratory illnesses. No child should be exposed to tobacco smoke. American Journal of Epidemiology, 05/03. | |||
